You want Napoleonic battles a la Hornblower and Master-and-Commander? You got it: a whole lot, for at least two chapters, with the echoes through the rest of the book.
You want alternate history? Oh baby, let me hand you the drool rag.
You want dragons battling it out in the skies overhead? Yep yep yep.

You want details without data dumps? Fully-realized alternate worlds? Interspecies friendships unreliant on telepathy? The alarmed alien's observation of human social interaction? The culture shock of a citizen discovering that not all is as he believed it to be? Consequences?

Go buy this book. Read the reviews first, if you want.

*hugs* Don't fret. I borrowed it from the library, and tonight my lady talked me into purchasing a copy. If you send me your copy, I will then have the first of my "loaners."
