His Majesty's Dragon

The Amazon link is here. Go buy it. There is no excuse not to, except my own: I'm moving, and I won't buy any more books until I can put them on the shelf in the new house.

Then I plan on buying three copies, so that I can pass them out.

So waddaya want? You want Jane Austin's domestic details and Napoleonic England? You got it: a little bit, but very nicely managed.
You want Napoleonic battles a la Hornblower and Master-and-Commander? You got it: a whole lot, for at least two chapters, with the echoes through the rest of the book.
You want alternate history? Oh baby, let me hand you the drool rag.
You want dragons battling it out in the skies overhead? Yep yep yep.

You want details without data dumps? Fully-realized alternate worlds? Interspecies friendships unreliant on telepathy? The alarmed alien's observation of human social interaction? The culture shock of a citizen discovering that not all is as he believed it to be? Consequences?

Go buy this book. Read the reviews first, if you want.

*Now has an additional reason to be impatient for Closing Day.*

Sounds pretty interesting. It's not an author I've ever heard of to be honest. I shall put it on my own private wish list.

Thanks for the good review. I've seen this book and strongly considered purchasing it. This review will move it up in the queue of "things to buy as soon as possible".

::smacks forehead:: I was supposed to send you my extra copy! I have the book and the mailer right next to the bed, just to remind me. :-(

Well. If you don't need the extra for yourself, do you want it for someone else?
